May 8th 2012

We got up early at 6:30 this morning. It was realy early after staying up late last night. We had an excellent breakfast at our bed and breakfast.

Well, we drove to Budapest Hungary with various detours to Munich, Germany and the Austrian Alps. The distance we had to drive was about a 1000km. We actually made it much longer because we did a detour through the Austrian Alps. Here's what we did all day:

Allison Major's Journal

Well, we are very much lost in Baden-Baden right now. We’re trying to find the autobahn. Honestly, we could stay lost here and I’d be happy. The only downside is that I really want to walk around the town explore but we have a time line and must get to Budapest, Hungary.  There is so much wisteria here and huge chestnut trees. Literally everywhere you go is caked with plant life and tasteful gardens. Yards aren’t an option, there must be gardens; it perfect. We have finally found our way after being lost in the winding streets of Baden-Baden, Germany. The German Autobahn doesn’t have a speed limit and Dr. Anna’s boyfriend is really funny because he refuses to go any faster than 80 mph and Dr. Anna is him to go faster; they are quite the sight to see sometimes.

I’m glad I prepared to not be vegan on this trip because literally everything has dairy and they refuse to make any alterations to anything. The food so far has been amazing, and the beer is better than what people say it is. I ate asparagus soup and some sort of potatoe dish last night and this morning I ate apricot marmalade on the best croissant of my life; I don’t even like croissants and I love this one. I also had scrambled eggs, strawberry and peach yogurt, 3 types of bread, fruit, and drank carrot juice and orange juice.  The asparagus is white here, a lot of the vegetable. European countries actually outlawed all genetically modified foods. I also had a dainty cup of coffee. I don’t think they understand strong coffee in large quantities.

I forget to write down what all the yellow plants they are mass growing along the autobahn. It’s canola plant! Like canola oil! Turns of its processed with HCL for food and biofuels and such. It’s absolutely everywhere. I wish our crops were as vibrant and beautiful. Ausfahrt is the word for exit and every time I see it on the autobahn I crack up. I can’t help it, it’s just the way I try and say it I suppose, ha. Dr. Anna decided to drive; Paige put on her seat belt.

I just saw the Alps for the first time in person in my life; I might cry.

If I had butter cups and a view of the Alps everyday I’d be the happiest person on Earth. I wonder if the people who live here take it all for granted. I suppose if they grew up every day seeing it they would, but to be honest, this is the most beautiful place I have ever been. Paradise is real.

This is the bathroom (WC) in Germany. You have to pay 50 cents.

In the afternoon we have arrived to the Austrian Alps.

Because of our detour, We did not get to our hotel before 2 a.m.
